Our Identity & Origin
The Belize Medical & Dental Association (BMDA) was established in 1964, at a time when Belize was moving toward internal self-government. The founding meeting took place at the home of Dr. Salvador Awe in Belize City, and Dr. Awe was elected as the first President.
From those beginnings, the BMDA has grown into the principal professional association representing medical and dental practitioners in Belize. Its foundational mission was and remains to promote excellence in medical and dental practice, ensure ethical conduct, and serve the interests of both practitioners and the public.
